Believe in yourself

Mary Kay Ash an American Business man once said, “If you think you can, you can. And if you think you can't, you're right,” meaning as long you believe in yourself, anything can happen and your challenges can be solved. There are many challenges that happen in our life; it takes a lot for a person to persevere and fight for success. Every day, many fight hard to succeed. People like William Wissemann fight a daily battle to succeed in education. Mohammad Ali, fight Parkinson’s disease, and fight to achieve good grades. Therefore, I think success is worth fighting for.

One young adult, William Wissemann, fights to achieve his educational goals. When William Wissemann was in elementary school, he had problems with learning and writing: therefore, he moved to a special school to help him learn better. Due to his dyslexia (a disease causing learning disabilities which affects a person’s reading, awareness, hearing, understanding and memory) gave him no choice but to move into another environment for his future. Although he is different from the other students, that does not mean he is simple minded. In my opinion, he is unique. Solving the Rubik’s cube made him believed that “sometimes you have to take a few steps back to move forward.” After William Wissemann slowly learned how to solve cube, he knew that it was important to figure things out slowly, to break things down and find connections. That way it could help him with learning. Rubik’s Cube taught him to be patient and when there are complex problems, he need to break them down smaller and more manageable parts in order for him to succed. This makes me wonder how much difficulties will he meet during his study procedure, or how long will education takes place in his life - 5 years? 10 years? Or forever? William Wissemann is one of many who has to fight a daily battle to succeed. He battled a learning disability, but some battle diseases that affect you physically.

Mohammad Ali, three times heavy weight boxing champions, fights his opponent Parkinson’s disease to maintain his quality of life. Parkinson disease is a disease causing degenerative disorder of the central nervous system that might easily cause death. Although Mohammad Ali has the disease, he does not give up his hope of life. Instead, he is still confident in himself and believes that he is ‘the greatest of all time’ . Mohammad Ali’s parents taught him ever since he was little that he could be the best at everything if he tries his best. Because of their encouragement, Mohammad Ali perceives his hope of life pretty well and understands as long as he does not give up, he still has a chance of success. Even though he had the Parkinson disease, when he was asked to light the torch for the 1996 Olympics he accepted it immediately, he believed that having the Parkinson disease is not a very big deal, he believed that he can still do it because he is confident. Everyone has something that they want to fight for success. After learning about fighting for success, it inspires me to persevere with life’s challenges.

I too, struggle with life’s challenges and need to fight for success. I fight for success in studying. I fight for a good grades, trying to beat my own personal best scores. After studying about William Wissemann, I learned from him that whenever I meet a problem, there will be many other ways to help me solve the problems in our life; it just depends on how we choose to face it or how we want our life to be. For instance William Wissemann, he chose to face it by learning step by step and at last, he succeeded in his improvement of study. To fight for my success, I study hard and ask questions when it is necessary. I realize that studying cannot be done in one day, two days or three days; it’s a lifelong thing. After perusing William Wissemann’s article, it inspired me with a new way to improve in my study. Whenever I have a problem on any question I am studying, I can take more time to understand it, or even break it into smaller pieces and try to find connections in it. In that case, the new skills I learned could stay in my mind longer by finding out the answers my own instead of getting ‘spoonfed’ by others without trying my best for the answers.

Believing in yourself can create confidence and it can change your whole life. As mentioned earlier by Mary Kay Ash, “If you think you can, you can. And if you think you can't, you're right.” When you are facing a challenge, believe that anything can be solved as long as you believe that if you try, you can solve the problem.

Animals are suffering

Animal abuse should stop. This video is telling us about how sad animals are. Animals need love and cares but instead most of them are suffering abuse everyday. They want to have a voice to speak up but they can’t. They want to tell us about how much they are suffering. On the other hand, we used animals for experiments and test to make us live with more luxurious things. We are hurting their soul, therefore we should fight against animals abuse. Every day animals are being killed for experimentation, clothing, and food; this animal abuse must stop.

Every year animals are used in experiments that result in death. Every year, 100 millions of animals die from experimental testing. To control the experiment, scientists lock the animals in small cages. They are left there alone in the dark and cold area with no love and care. They were only taken out when they are needed for the experiment. Because the animals are used as a tool, scientists do not care about how many tears are sacrificed from the animals or how sore their heart is. They only care about whether the experiment is successful. As a result, the animals might be injured in the experiment or worse yet, die. Some of these experiments are conducted to test products like makeup which is not very useful because we don’t depend on makeup to live. During the experiment, scientist put make up such as eye shadow on the animal to test the make up. After doing the experiment, the scientist measured the animal’s skin irritancy and toxicity caused by various substance of the makeup that they were experimenting. After they had the results of the experiment then the animal that sacrificed are not important to them anymore, they just throw away like it’s a piece of useless rubbish. The scientists don’t appreciate the sacrifice of the animal. The animal might be thinking, why? Why do we have to sacrifice just for making humans look prettier and nicer? Additionally, there are also many different kinds of animal abuse going on other in the world other than just having them for experimental testing.

Another form of animal abuse is using animal skin for making luxurious things. Every year over 500 millions animals are killed for fashion. The amount of animal death caused by making clothing are rising each year. Rue McClanahan has once said that “Cruelty is one fashion statement we can all do without”. Rue McClanahan is saying that without using animal’s skin for clothing it won’t effect us much but it can effect the animal’s whole life. They were caught and being separated from their family in a very young age for their skin. Most of their skin are being ripped off while they are still alive. Animals sacrificed because of people’s selfishness for the texture of the clothing and for the fashion of it. Other than using animal’s skin for clothing we can use cloth. Why do we have to use their skin and take their life to make cloths when we have other materials? We shouldn’t disturb the animals because they are innocent, they have their life in the forest and we have ours. Animal’s skin are also used for making rugs. Rugs are used for people in cold places to keep warm and some are just for decorating their house and which causes an animal death. There are other ways to keep warm such as using fire instead of taking an animal’s life. Using animals for experimental test and using animal’s skin were not the only animal abuse.

Many people eat meat everyday which some argue is another form of animal abuse. 750,000,000 fishes are slaughter for food each year just in one country. Can you imagine how much death of animals are there? Would the answer of slaughter in the whole world be Million? Billions? Trillions? Some people catches fish just for the entertainment of it but the fishes are innocent. Fishes lives in the sea and swim freely in there but they were caught by people just for the fun and eat them after they caught it.They do have a life like us humans but why is eating a person sin but eating animals are not sin? In my opinion I think that eating meat are fine but eating meat everyday is not acceptable and its also not healthy because eating too much meat can cause serious gastric problem. Not eating meat everyday can also help people around the world from starving because the require of meat has caused the booming of livestock farming industry. Animals eat crops and we eat them. In America, 5kg of crops are needed to produce 1kg of beef, 7kg of crops are needed to produce 1kg of pork and 2.6kg of crops are needed to produce 1kg of chicken. If we don’t eat meat just for a single day we can save approximately 560 million people around the world from starving. We can eat vegetables to substitute meat then the animals won’t die innocently and it can also save more people from dying of hunger. Why not if this can help save lives? Event like meatless Monday were held in school, offices and other places to stop animal abuse and to be more healthy. For us, not eating meat for one day is not a big deal but for the animals its a day where they can feel safe and free.

Without animal abuse, less animals will be implicated by the innocent. As mentioned before, animals needs our caring and love. They are suffering right now therefore I think that animal abuse is worth fighting for.

Freedom is one of the strongest human need

Thucydides, a Greek historian, stated, “The secret of happiness is freedom, the secret of freedom is courage.” The meaning of this quote is that freedom is one of the strongest human needs and people should have the courage to fight for their freedom. An example of people fighting for freedom is the Jews when Hitler is the leader of Germany, because during that time their freedom is taken away, they had a really tough life.

During the rule of Hitler, thousands of Jews had to fight for their freedom to be seen as equals. Hitler used propaganda to convince the Germans that Jews were bad, dirty and mean, he basically brainwashed them, and therefore Jews were seen as ugly people. Hitler hated Jews so much because he thought all Jews were the ones that were responsible for making the Germans suffer from hyperinflation-meaning extremely rapid/out of control inflation, because of this he put them into concentration camps to separate them from the ‘true’ Germans. This information shows that Hitler was a racist person and if anyone treats him bad he can remember it for really long time and will try to take revenge on it because Hitler treats all the Jews like puppets even though most of them are innocent. As mentioned earlier by Thucydides “The secret of happiness is freedom, the secret of freedom is courage.” Meaning that people should stand up for themselves for freedom but surprisingly the Jews didn’t stood up even though their freedom is taken away, many people is being a bystander therefore Hitler became powerful.

In the concentration camps, the victims had to do what they were told. Their freedoms were taken away. If they tried to escape, they would be killed immediately. They never knew what would happen the next day. Would they be killed? Would they starve to death? Or would they be lucky enough to be alive? They all lived under the control of fear. Some tried to hide from being caught, but it’s hard unless they had a German friend or else they can die of hunger because no one will sell them food. They will easily be caught to the concentration camp because there were many soldiers everywhere; therefore there were no escape for the Jews. In my opinion I think that both Germans and Jews are also mankind so they should be treated same. It’s really unfair that they are treated differently because of where they are born in, where they come from and what their religion is. As mentioned earlier by Thucydides “The secret of happiness is freedom, the secret of freedom is courage.” If the Jews had courage to stand up against Hitler then they will be freedom and if they had freedom then they will have happiness.

-->The Jews had an unpleasant life because of the religion they were from, they were treated differently. There were Jews that had survived until today. They had escaped from the concentration camp. To fight back, they spread the news of how they lived in the concentration camp, they fought back through education. This is so much better than fighting, because through education, kids can learn about the history and the moral of it and since kids are the future then they can pass on the history then more and more people would know about it.

As mentioned earlier by Thucydides “The secret of happiness is freedom, the secret of freedom is courage.” If I was powerful when Hitler rules, I would probably stand up for having everyone treated equally.
What is worth for fighting? Its freedom. I feel that I am really lucky that I don’t have to suffer the experience that the Jews had back before and I don’t need to live under the control of fear. I appreciate my life of freedom that I am having now. Life without Freedom will never be happy.
