Dec. 1:  Eboo Petel

Religion, skin colours, gender, countries, do they all matter? In my opinion I think that they don't matter, everyone is equal and should be treated equally. No matter what countries they come from, what gender are they, what is their skin colour and religion, it doesn't matter, they are still humans, we are all the same. Eboo Petel a man that is grew up in Chicago, who is trying really hard to fit in with the white people. He is complaining to his father about why didn't they move to a place where there is more Asians? I think he wanted to be treated equally. This reminds of the story of "The blokes", by ... Eboo Petel is like Hashim trying to fit in with blokes. I think that no matter who we are, we should treated equally like others.

NOV. 30: BURMESE HIP-HOP

FREEDOM, FREEDOM, what is life with without freedom. I can imagine it right now, it is bad, sad and lonely.  In Burma, people don't have the freedom to play and sing musics. Not even dancing. Musics can help to make our mood better, example like sometimes when you are sad or angry, we can at least sing or dance to express ourselves, but the people in Burma can't. In Burma a hip-hop star name Thxa Soa. He attempt to bring change to Burma where so many human rights abuses occur. This reminds me of a story name "The Blokes", by ... The story is about some bully that controls the black people and the sylum seekers like puppets. To me the people in Burma that lost their freedom for dancing and sing musics when they want, is like the black people that are outside to group of the blokes they are being controlled, and their freedom is taken away. And for the goverment that takes away the people in Burma's freedom is like the blokes in the story, they are controlling them like puppets, and doing what they want without thinking about other feelings. I think that doing what was wanted is okay, as long as it doesn't cause any harm.

Nov. 30: DARKNESS = SADNESS

This is a Picasso's painting of Guernica. This painting painted by Picasso doesn't look much like a happy painting to me, it looks like a painting where they is only sadness and cruelty people. The main reason I don't think its a happy painting is because in the painting there's only black and white colours, no colourful colours which made it look dark, scary, depressing, dull, miserable. The black colour reminds me of death. Only a small part of the painting is bright, the people in the painting looks so miserable, everyone is asking for help. In the painting I can see that there is only a few people that is near the light where its bright in the picture. This reminds me of the story, "The Blokes". The light is like where the group of the blokes were, they are safe, the brightness is like the hope of them. Outside at the darkness (which is like outside the group of The Blokes) they are in danger. They might die any second. I think that Picasso is showing us in the painting of Guernica that having war is like the painting, they are bad, everywhere is dieing, killing and hunting and everywhere will be people screaming and crying.

Nov. 12: FORGIVING MAKES LIFE EASIER

Fatmire and her family members

I feel that Fatmire's life journey is really really tough compared to mine, she had to suffer for 10 years! I think that she is a really brave and independent person, if I were her I don't think I could take that much suffering and I don't think if I would even be alive by now. I think she wanted to create peace for others but also for herself, but she is powerless.

During 1999 in Kosovo Famire's siblings disappeared. Ten years later she still does not know what happened to them or where are they... She hated the war and the people that kidnapped or killed her siblings, but she wants to forgive them because forgiving is to let go and to be free. She is stuck in the middle between forgiveness and hate. It was as if her life was like a road, she didn't know what to do. This reminds me of the poem by Robert Frost "The Road Not Taken". It is about someone deciding which way to go, each road make the different future depends on what you choose.

Fatmire faces choices just like the speaker in the poem by Frost. I think that if she chose to forgive she will be free because she won't keep thinking about it, it won't bother her life. If she chose not to forgive them  and to hate them she would suffer from that, she will keep thinking about it and this will make her mood always sad, or worried. I have never had hard choices like her before, but I think my parents might have, I only needed to do choices like what should I wear today, what movie should I watch (if I go to watch a movie), what should I eat today and things like that. Everyone will have to decide once in a while, sometimes a decision might change our life, and our future depends on what we choose...
